Resizing of Canale Piovego in Villabozza

Work execution period: 2004 to date

Client: Consorzio Venezia Nuova and Veneto Region

Activities: Works Management, Design Phase and Execution Phase Safety Coordination

Amount:  16.899 million Euros

The resizing of the Villabozza Canal was performed through the widening, sheathing and re-sectioning of its beds and banks, and the reconstruction and widening of certain of its crossing points. At points where the morphology of the territory and/or the presence of infrastructure near the water precluded sufficient canal bed widening, metal sheet piles were sunk for the containment of the banks and the exploitation of the largest hydraulic section possible. The construction of an intake structure in the bed of the Tergola, and a lateral spillway and a gutter with a gate for the regulation of the remaining flow from the Piovego River. The additional works can be summarized as follows:

  • raising of the height of the gravel top
  • protection of the bottom with gravel at the bridge crossing areas
  • rebuilding of the banks damaged by the flood in November 2005
  • construction of two pedestrian walkways
  • replanting of shrubbery to mitigate the effects of brush-cutting required for canal resizing.
